Dean's Update - February 2019

Hi Applied Arts,

This update has been a long-time coming. I have no excuse. It’s the result of chronic, debilitating procrastination. Let’s see if we can’t get this blog back on track!

Faculty Attendance at Convocation

If you haven’t already, please consider attending Convocation on May 23, 2019 to support our graduates as they cross the stage...

Dean's Update - October 2018

Hi Applied Arts,

Hard to believe the end of October and, with it, Hallowe’en are already upon us. For those who haven’t seen the posters, the Hallowe’en theme at the College this year is Heroes and Villains. Participation isn't mandatory, but last year’s Harry Potter theme was a hoot, so don’t shy away from dressing up as your favourite superhero or supervillain if the mood takes you. I know folks in Academic and Skill Development have something special in the works--can't wait to see what they come up with. If you’re keen to work all day in a costume but are out of ideas,...

Dean's Update - June 2018

Hi Applied Arts,

I was doing so well for a while there sending out blog postings monthly, then went completely off the rails in March, April and May. Sigh. It’s been a very busy time in Applied Arts, but I’ll endeavor to get back on schedule. Here are few reminders and news items from the across the Division and the College:

Out-of-Office Messages & Leave Reports

For faculty and staff heading out, or already out, on leave, please remember to set up out-of-office messages on your phone and email. The message must include details about the length of...

Dean's Update - February 2018

Hi Applied Arts,

I hope everyone had a fun-filled Rendezvous weekend. Unfortunately, one of my littles was under the weather all weekend, so that put a bit of a damper on the festivities, but we still got outside for skiing, maple treats, sledding, and snow fort building.

Here are few updates from the across the Division and the College:

CAQC’s Recommendation

At long last, Campus Alberta Quality Council has recommended to Yukon’s minister of education that our Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance degree be approved! This is huge news and...

Dean's Update - January 2018

Hi Applied Arts,

My apologies that this update is a little late in coming. And belated Happy New Year! to anyone I haven’t touched base with yet.

Before getting to some news items, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for handling the craziness of this term’s start-up with professionalism and top-notch problem-solving skills. From our admin assistants finding ways to keep things moving despite Banner going down more than once; to Brent, Hiedi, Norm, Amanda, and Victoria running an impromptu program advising session for a large group of international students; to...

Dean's Update - December 2017

Hi Applied Arts,

Happy (soon-to-be) end of term everyone! The College's hallways are growing increasingly quiet, so I’m assuming many of you are already on leave, getting out those kerchiefs and caps and settling down for long winter’s naps. And while we’re on the subject of rest, I wish all of you the very best for the holidays. I hope they’re full of family, friends, good food, recreation, and deep sleep. Now on to a few updates to round out the fall term and put 2017 in Applied Arts to bed.

Indigenous Governance Degree Site Visit

The CAQC site visit...

Dean's Update - November 2017

Hi Applied Arts,

October seemed to rush past without me getting an update out to you. I certainly don’t want to make that a habit (again), so here are some items of interest from across the Division and College for November:

Welcome Jesse Whitehead and Genevieve Richard!

Way back in the spring of this year, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada informed the College that a proposal we’d submitted in 2016 to deliver the Health Care Assistant program based mainly in Haines Junction had been approved. I won’t go into the long backstory on the proposal,...

Dean's Update - September 2017

Hi Applied Arts,

My apologies that this update is a little late to your inboxes. It’s been a crazy busy month.

Here’s some news from across the Division and College (if you prefer the blog version, here is the link:

CAQC Degree-Level Site Visit

Campus Alberta Quality Council has asked the College for possible site visit dates between late-November and mid-December. We have sent them three options and are waiting to hear back. Pursuant to the site visit, Michael Kulachkosky, Lacia Kinnear, Victoria Castillo and I have been frantically planning...

Dean's Update - August 2017

Hi Applied Arts!

I hope you’ve all had a restful summer and took some time not to think about Yukon College at all. The fall term is fast approaching, so we’re about to enter a very busy period. In anticipation of the new term, here’s some news from across the Division:

New-look Applied Arts

The division changed quite a bit on July 1. Our division now includes the folks from the School of Academic and Skill Development. We have also said farewell to Joanne and Meghan at the Northern Institute of Social Justice, who have moved into the new Continuing...
