Kat is the new Communications Specialist at Yukon College, supporting the Communities, Innovation and Development division and research services.

Kat comes to Yukon College with a range of public relations experience stemming from past positions with non-profits as well as the federal government. Working for Parks Canada Agency at Fundy National Park, Kat supported two Conservation and Restoration programs in a communications capacity – Fundy Salmon Recovery and Sustainable Trail Development. In this role, she found a passion for telling important stories about the natural world. She then accepted a position as Public Relations and Community Engagement Coordinator with the Friends of Fundy, the official cooperating organization with Fundy National Park. In this position, her portfolio expanded, and with one foot in the park and one foot in the community she worked to achieve regional conservation and economic development goals.

Kat graduated from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts in French and Photography. She has since taken Media Relations at Humber College and Marketing Communications at Seneca College, both in Toronto. Kat is currently working towards a Graduate Diploma in Public Relations online through the University of Victoria.

New to Yukon, Kat moved to Whitehorse in September 2019 just prior to starting this position. Originally from Ontario, she moved to Whitehorse from the tiny village of Alma, New Brunswick. She has also lived in Banff. Alberta and Strasbourg, France. An outdoor enthusiast in all seasons, Kat loves hiking, camping, fishing, paddling, skiing (both cross country and downhill), pond hockey, snowshoeing…the list goes on! She loves cooking and keeps the creative side of her brain busy writing, play guitar, and doing other hands on activities like candle making and wood burning projects.
